I'm too old for this stuff

...apparently.

On the commute in to work Tuesday, I was at an intersection. The light turned green and I started out. I decided to stand up on the pedals to accelerate a little quicker and ZOUNDZ! something in my back popped/slipped/pulled. I was about halfway to work and had to make the call: Go home and phone it in, or continue on to work. Being the stupidly loyal employee I am, I rode into work.

I took some Advil and called my doctor, making an appointment with my doctor for the next day. It took a couple hours for the sharp pain to subside. The next day the doctor said I had "only" strained my back. Relatively good news, but still- Ouch ouch ouch. The anti-inflammatory the doctor gave me didn't seem to work as well as Advil so I'll be switching back to the Advil. And for the next few days at least, bicycle commuting will be a spectator sport for me.

Ouch! I hate it when people younger than me have this happen to them...

That's terrible. It's always seems to be the simplest movements that cause these kinds of things to happen. Get well soon.

Rat Trap's right. You have to watch out for the simple stuff. I discovered on Monday that I broke two ribs skiing on a bunny run at Breckenridge. My sister told me her instructors most often get injured in the lift line.

Hey man, your skeleton has a way cool almost radioactive glow! You must be so proud. Feel better soon.

I wouldn't be able to move some days without Advil. I love that stuff. Hope you feel better soon.

Sorry to hear about your back. Take it easy and get it healed quickly.

Ouch! Feel better soon! And, think about seeing a chiropractor. My back used to go out every month or two. Now, it happens less than once a year.

Nah, you might be to old to go mountain biking, though. =)

For the record: I had a few pretty tough days, but today I'm feeling much better. That said, I plan to not even get on the bike until I feel 100% better; I would hate to repeat this.

On the plus side, now I'm glad I didn't sign up for the HTH100.

Sorry to hear about this! Advil itself is an excellent anti-inflamatory, so taking it even after the pain subsides should improve the condition. And don't worry, it happens even to us young'uns, so nothing to do with age!

Ouch, so sorry to hear about that! I'm sure the physical merits of bike commuting vs. sitting in a car will eventually outweigh this injury.

Yesterday I rode 25 miles after not having ridden in a month. My left knee has an injured tendon as a direct result of cycling.

The last time I had tendinitis it was my elbow and it took forever to heal... ugh.

My knee was fine for about 15 miles then it started acting up so I took it easy and found the pedal dynamic that wouldn't strain it.

Problem is, I really want/need to ride...

Hope you get to feeling better soon Paul.

Glad to see you're feeling better Doohickie. Hope you're back to 100 percent soon.

That's exactly where I'm at right now, Popeye. I'm hoping to get back on this weekend. I took Advil this morning and now in the evening I'm still feeling pretty good. If the improvement continues at this pace, a weekend ride is not out of the question.

The Six: Thanks for the concern. I know you've been through much worse, and frankly I feel a bit like a whiny-baby: Yeah, I'm in pain, but I haven't missed any work time, so how bad can it be?
