Happy Thanksgiving!

And be careful with knives while you're cooking Thanksgiving dinner. In other words, don't be like me!

So much left unsaid:

Did you spoil anyone's dinner? Did you frighten any kids? Will this prevent you from riding for a while? Will it keep you from work?

If it were me,and if bled a lot, I might've fainted!

I will still think of you as hardcore even if you drive in all next week! You will be surprised how often you want to use your left thumb and how often it bangs into stuff.

Chicks love scars!

I hope you sleep fine and recover quickly!

Dude. I almost threw up looking at that pic. I hope you have a speedy recovery.

Thank you for risking your thumb to make my yummy soup.

It's no worse than I've done in the past. The visit to the hospital was no worse than, say, getting a cavity filled or donating blood. They were very good about giving me lots of Novocain and in fact my thumb is still numb after six hours.

I was cutting squash for a killer butternut squash-sweet potato-pear soup that was part of our Thanksgiving dinner. I was stupidly using the wrong kind of knife and it slipped and there ya go.

It bled a lot and the decision was made to go to the hospital, but before leaving I finished cutting up the squash. The soup was delicious.

The ER was deserted. My son drove me there and we were in and out in about an hour, including all paperwork. It cost me $150 though for the ER deductible under my insurance.

The doctor said the stitches needed to come out in 14 days but I gave him a wry smile and told him they wouldn't last that long. Heh.

Seriously, I have done worse. I once cut two fingertips off with an Xacto knife, and also tried to turn my other thumb into curly-cue fries with a meat slicer. This injury will be an annoyance but nothing more. And in the position it is in on my thumb I don't think it will keep me from using the thumb that much, nor will it hurt if I hit it.

No worries.

No worries, we shall see what you say once it finally is no longer numb.

That's gonna leave a mark!

You are not allowed to use sharp instruments when you are anywhere near me!

I'm glad you were eventually able to enjoy your Thanksgiving dinner.

My comment on my own blog obviously reflects the fact that I hadn't followed the link... Ooch.

I hope there wasn't any Doohickie in that soup. Or if there was, did iut make it better? ewwww!

Rantwick there was no Doohickie inthe soup. If there had been it would have been tossed. I'm a vegeterian.

OMG Paul! You okay?

Doohickie said...

Yes, I'm fine.

The stitches are in there, the thumb is healing nicely. It doesn't hurt at all unless it takes a direct hit on the stitches.

I have nearly full use of the thumb. The only effect on riding my bike is that I have to be a little careful when I ring the bell.

Ouch! Sounds like you've got a good attitude about it, though, and it'll heal nicely.
