My blogs- past, present and future

I formerly ran three blogs- this one, Beginning Bicycle Commuting, and The Mixte Gallery.

The Commuting blog was about my journey into bicycle commuting. After a while, I no longer was a beginner, so I thought of it as inspirational and changed the tag line to "Encouragement for Getting to Work on Your Bike." It was intended to be a multi-author blog and I invited some other authors to blog there too, but after one or two posts, they kind of trailed off.

The Mixte Gallery was a posting of mixtes submitted by readers.

And then there was this blog. Basically, I posted stuff about commuting and bicycles to the Commuting blog, mixte pics on The Mixte Gallery, and everything else to this blog.

I fell behind The Mixte Gallery and actually had so many submittals that it seemed like I'd never catch up.

Then last year I started posting to Facebook under my real name. I found I simply didn't have the energy to maintain and do justice to all those outlets, along with some forums I post to, plus, y'know, real life. So one night I just shut the Commuting blog and The Mixte Gallery down. It was very liberating.

In a recent comment, one of my favorite bloggers asked why I "decided to consolidate [my] blogs, and to end the Mixte Gallery?"

I figured this post would explain how I got to this point.

So what does the future hold?

I'm looking into importing all the posts I made at the Commuting blog into Doohickie. I will probably do it with a dummy blog first, just in case I don't like how it comes out. Even if I decide not to go through with that, all my future bicycle and commuting posts will be here at Doohickie.

As for The Mixte Gallery... I shut it down because I just felt like I was too far behind and wanted to clear my table. I've kind of felt bad about that ever since. Sometime soon, I think I will revive the gallery. First I will go ahead and post all the previous submittals I've received while keeping new submittals closed. When the backlog is just about exhausted, I will open up the blog again for new submittals. I hope everyone who was a fan of The Mixte Gallery will eventually notice when the new posts start again, so keep an eye out. (I will announce the Grand Reopening here, of course.)

Anyway, that's where I sit, blog-wise.
